From October 15th to 17th, 2025, the DREAMING in Sports Collaboratory at York University hosted its inaugural international Symposium, “Advancing Mobility Justice, Gender Equity & Climate Action through Sport”. The three-day event brought together a diverse group of global leaders to confront the persistent (dis)connect between mobility justice, climate action, and sport, including leisure, movement, recreation, physical activity, and physical education.

The Symposium was structured around three themes:
Day One: Reclaiming Spaces: Anti-Colonial Journeys and Grassroots Movements. We kicked off the three-day event with robust discussions on how cycling, as a form of outdoor movement and physical activity, can both reproduce and resist colonial exploitation and displacement.
Day Two: Changing Gears: Gender Equity, Climate Action, and Global Perspectives on Mobility Justice. Discussions revolved around the need for intersectional planning in design and decision-making to create safer, more inclusive mobility and environmental systems for all.
Day Three: Creating Sustainable Futures: Policy, Climate Justice, and Collective Action. This day explored policy challenges and opportunities in creating equitable systems of movement.
